About the club
About the club: The present club began as the "Pembroke Tennis Club” in 1908. Wanaka Tennis Inc. was incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 3 September 1997.
The Constitution (Rules) of Wanaka Tennis Inc. (as amended on 17 January 2003) are available on request from the Secretary, and are posted on the notice board in the Club House.
Objectives of the club include: To foster and promote tennis. To provide facilities. To participate in the sport of tennis and associated social functions for club members, residents of Wanaka District Community, and visitors. Currently this includes 7 courts, a volley wall and a clubhouse with sundeck.
Membership categories: The club’s constitution states, "that members shall be designated to meet the requirements of the club at each AGM."
The membership categories are:
Pee Wee - up to 8 years
Junior - 8 to 18 years
Senior - 19 to 34 years
Veteran - 35 to 54 years
Super Veteran - 55 years and over Associate - Non-playing Membership type is based on the age of the member as of the date of application.
Life members: We are proud to include among our membership 25 inaugural life members and honorary life members.
Membership fees: Membership fees are set annually at the AGM and are due from the day of Opening each year. Please refer to the Membership tab for the current fees.
A half-yearly subscription is available from 1 March.
Visitors welcome. Court hire $20.00 per hour or $6.00 per person for non-members.
Financial year: From 1 July to 30 June of the following year.
Annual general meeting: The Management Committee sets a day, location and time in September/October each year for the AGM. Members are advised by email and/or newsletter and the general public via a local newspaper.
Management Committee: Officers elected at the AGM comprise: President, Vice President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Club Captain, up to four other ordinary members. See Committee tab under About The Club.
Subcommittees: A number of subcommittees exist for various purposes and are responsible to the management committee.
Opening Day: Held in October on the same date as the AGM with the date being set at the AGM and is celebrated with a doubles competition for the George Morris Memorial Millennium Trophy.
