It has been another busy summer on the courts for the coaches. We have seen so many players of all ages enjoying improving their tennis again. Our junior program continues to produce some great results around the region and it is great to see the old dogs still learning new tricks in our adult lessons.
The next thing coming up for juniors are our popular school holiday tennis camps. We will be running 3 and 5 day camp options from 9-10 am for 5-7 years and 10 am-1 pm for 8-14 years. Details and bookings at www.aspiringtennis.com.
I am really excited to have John Rogers working with me at the club now. John is a hugely experienced and advanced level coach who is able to work well with players of all ages and levels. John is from the UK, but was the head coach at Takapuna Tennis Club for 10 years so he is a NZ resident. He had his own coaching business in Bornemouth and recently headed up the junior programme at a large club near London. He is doing a fantastic job heading up our junior group classes, our development squads and also helping adult members to improve their tennis.
John is going to be here all year around so it is not too late to get started in some private lessons if you or your group of players would like to learn more about technique, strategy, or just have a great fun practice session.
You can contact John directly for bookings on 021-295-1822.
See you on the courts soon!
Perry.

Halfway through a chilly term 3 of coaching and it has been great that so many kids (and a few hardy adults) have continued with their lessons.
For the first time in winter we have kept the mini orange and junior advanced classes going with the addition of a tennis ladder and match play. Despite the freezing and often wet conditions the kids have done really well and are developing their match skills. We will look forward to more sessions like this when our full schedule begins again in spring.
I am looking forward to taking a group of kids to my home on the Sunshine Coast for training and then they will compete in Brisbane. We have some great juniors in Wanaka at the moment and they are doing really well even at National Level.
Ines Stephani and Michael Gealogo are both looking like they will qualify for the Masters Top 8 event for the top 8 players in their age in New Zealand. They are both currently top 5 in NZ for their year group.
We had a training day before Nationals and it was great to have Meg and Olivia here so we could see the full complement of home grown Wanaka players making the Southern teams for Nationals.
Finally on a personal note Kirstie and I welcomed our son Caio James into the world in February and are loving being new parents. Perhaps another junior member for the future?
Cheers.

It has been a busy term again for the coaching program with many juniors and adults of all levels improving their game and enjoying their tennis. I have been taking some squads for the most talented amongst our 5-7 year olds and can report that the future looks bright for Wanaka Juniors.
We had 7 juniors selected in the Southern region squads to train towards being selected to play in the National Teams Event. Congratulations to Olivia Ray, Caitlin Gibson, Rory McLean, Ines Stephani, Michael Gealogo, Annie Timu and Danielle Molloy on being selected for these squads.
Our school holiday coaching clinics begin in the second week of January, 2014 and are a great way for kids to make big leaps forward with their tennis by playing for a full week. They are heaps of fun too, and they are with kids who come from all over to join in.
All info and lesson times are on our website.

It has been a very busy start to the coaching season with over 130 kids participating in tennis coaching this term. We also have a strong adult coaching programme going with beginner and intermediate on Monday night and cardio tennis and adult groups in the mornings.
We will be taking a short break over Christmas and New Year followed by our week long summer tennis camps for kids in Jan. These are a great way for kids to improve their tennis and make new friends
Once again we have had junior success with several of our juniors having great tournament results at the start of the season. Meg Timu and Olivia Ray have both been very competitive in the 14’s girls this season even though they are only 12. They were part of the of the Southern Lakes Team along with Rory McLean and Cedric Stephani which won the Southern Team beating South Canterbury, Otago, Southland and North Otago. They are heading to Blenheim for the South Island Schools Tournament after Qualifying at the Southern Region Event in Dunedin.
Other great performances have come from Ines Stephani winning the Timaru Spring Open in the 12’s even though she is only 10 and Michael Geologo has proven to be the strongest player in Southern for 10’s boys winning every match in the regional teams event at number 1. Caitlin Gibson has also had great results in the 12’s this season including a strong performance at the Mid-Canterbury Open in Ashburton which was unfortunately rained out when she was in the semi’s. 10 year old girls Danielle Molloy and Annie Timu have also moved up to play in the 12’s and had some excellent wins and close games with some of the top girls.
