Ladder Rules & Guidelines
Singles Ladder Rules: A player can currently challenge up to four places higher on the ladder than them. Once a challenge is made & their opponent who they have challenged is aware the challenge has been issued to them, then has approximately two weeks to respond. Either accepting the challenge & playing the match, or forfeiting the match & relinquishing their ladders points.
Match scoring: After having multiple players suggesting &/or requesting so, the scoring format is officially a straight three set match. The third set will be played out in its entirety for both them women & men.
Results & ladder scoring: The winning player of a ladder match receives six points for the victory, + one additional point for every game more that they win than their opponent.
For example – Don def Will 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7)
Don will be awarded six points for winning. However he will not earn any additional points because he did not win more total games than Will. Don only won 14 games (including the tie breaker) whilst Will won a total of 15 games.
The loser of the ladder match only gets one point for participation plus one point per game if he wins more than his opponent should he/she manage that.
Availability: If a player forfeits a challenge issued to them, they will lose three ladder points. The challenger will be issued six points as if he/she has won.
An injured player: A) has to be able to show/prove that they are legitimately injured. If they can do so, then
B) they will not lose any points if they turn down a challenge. However, if they are still not able to play after a certain amount of time, then they will be stripped of one ladder point per month that they are out. Same rules apply to players who are not available because of their current location. For example, not being in Wanaka because they are travelling abroad, have moved away, only live near Wanaka for part of the year, etc.
Will is able to make expections for players on a circumstantial basis & will allow said player to have their ranking protected for a certain amount of time that is deemed fair & necessary.
Other details: A ladder match can be played at any time provided both players have agreed to play it. Either independently, or coinciding with another competition. For example, a club champs match can simultaneously be for ladder points too.
